One of my all-time favorite breakfast foods is biscuits and gravy. There are a variety of options for biscuits. Either canned or frozen biscuits work well. You can also make biscuits from a box mix. However, I highly recommend making your biscuits from scratch. The difference in the taste is well worth it. You can check out the biscuit recipe here.
Sausage gravy can be made from a mix or if you are in a rush, there is always the canned gravy option. However, the taste of sausage gravy made from scratch is worth the extra time and effort. It is a recipe you and your family are sure to love and come back for more.
The ingredients include all-purpose flour, butter, evaporated milk (which adds a creamy taste to the gravy), regular milk, and of course sausage. Breakfast sausage is recommended. However, I have tried this recipe with Italian sausage which gives the gravy a flavorful and distinct taste that is certainly worth trying.
When I make sausage gravy, I like to make plenty so that I can serve a larger gathering or have leftovers for later. Leftover sausage gravy can be used as an excellent topping for breakfast burritos or as a topping for a breakfast bowl. If you wish to make a more conservative amount of gravy, I have included a recipe for that below. Let’s get cooking…
